Our Story
It all started with Geetika Kapoor who in 2010 joined Manzil as a volunteer. Experiencing the warmth and creativity at Manzil led her to make a life-changing decision, she took a leap over the metaphorical wall! She left her corporate job and fully embraced her new life at Manzil. Geetika started giving the same attention to underprivileged children in her neighbourhood. It started off with a few children at home and what followed was nothing less than a divine intervention. Geetika’s friend, Parmeet Singh Chadha, became our backbone. He contributes financially and as a friend and advisor. The two of them are now trustees of Udaan. Thus Udaan was born on its own, through the goodness of heart of many people.
When we set out to find a space to conduct the classes, we were shown a delightful place in our neighbourhood free of charge. Computer systems we set up for children also came with minimal input. Our tables and chairs came free from Amit Tiwari. Slowly things fell into place and our shy little family was born. We are now three years in the running. We were officially registered in 2019 because we wanted to be sure that our ideas would work out before we gave hope to the children. We remain a small family and are happy this way as it means students receive the attention they deserve. Our dream is to work with children who have had no exposure to education at all. We hope our students of today will be mentors of tomorrow and give back to society what they experienced.
